KILL SHOT by Jason Dearen

We’ve got a pharmacist in our book club, and this was their recommendation. The story of how the irresponsible actions of a single company severely sickened, injured, or killed more than 900 people is deeply upsetting and gripping—and the death toll is still rising.
This book is an expertly crafted modern crime thriller that both informs and engages the reader. The author skillfully uses the story of the New England Compounding Center and its devastating, slow-moving mass casualty event to shed light on the entire industry of compounding pharmacies and their relatively lax regulations. The case feels particularly relevant, as it happened so recently, with many of the devastatingly injured victims still alive, and as compounding pharmacies are gaining renewed attention due to the production of GLP-1 drugs.
This is the first book where we used fractional ratings, and almost everyone rated it either an 8 or a 9. No one rated it below a 7, making it a crowd favorite all around. How did it change our lives? For starters, we now always check to see if any drug prescribed by our doctor comes from a compounding pharmacy, and we ask a lot of questions before getting anything injected into our bodies.
You should read this book. It’s quick, engaging, and hard to put down. Plus, it’ll make you smarter about the drugs your doctor prescribes and help you better protect yourself.
