PROJECT HAIL MARY by Andy Weir
Rating: 9/10 reps
Categories: Fiction
Hail Mary, full of Grace, this is one of our highest-rated books ever. While it’s Sci-Fi, it’s so broadly accessible, with characters that are vividly differentiated and deeply engaging, that even the most anti-science-fiction readers among us gave it high marks. It’s a riveting, fun read that flies by despite its length and the unexpected amount of math it includes. We highly recommend the audiobook version, as sound plays a key role in the story.
Andy Weir masterfully tells an expansive, high-stakes story about saving the planet from an unknown threat in a way that feels personal, emotional, funny, dramatic, and engaging. The story is deeply immersive and gripping. Weir skillfully employs classic narrative devices like flashbacks, comic relief, and time sequencing, all of which feel natural and enhance the story’s themes and pacing as the plot expands through the eyes of the protagonist.
You should read this book. If you like Sci-Fi, you’ll love it. If you don’t, you’ll probably still enjoy it. However, if you have arachnophobia or astrophobia… it might not be for you. Break out the rosary beads and turn up some music from The Beatles, you’re going to space.
