DEBT: THE FIRST 5,000 YEARS by David Graeber

This is the worst book we have ever read.

Have you ever thought, “I’d like to read a spreadsheet where all the math is wrong for 18 hours”? Then this book is for you. Only one member of the book club liked this book and they didn’t even like it that much… and we have trained Economists as well as policy experts in the club.

It’s long, boring, and basically tries to pass off a demonstrably false argument about semantics into a revolutionary theory by overly simplifying proven rules of economics. There are many many more insightful books on the history of money that are also waaaaaaayyyy shorter. While it did teach us the historical meaning of a Jubilee and how many shells you need to buy a prostitute in ancient Mesopotamia you can fit all the important and interesting things from this 18 HOUR LONG AUDIOBOOK (it’s too damn long and the rent is too damn high) on a regular size post-it note.

As the author says “we don't all have to pay our debts. Only some of us do.” Well most of us are still trying to get our money back from buying this book.
