This is a long book and if you’re not a history fan this won’t be for you. If you are a history fan then saddle up buddy cause you’re going for a fucking wild ride.

It takes an amoral look at the behavior of settlers putting down roots in modern day Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, and other then “borderlands” during the time of western expansion in the US and how the behaviors of Native Americans and settlers collided in these areas.

It details the longest continuous conflict in American history - the fights between the Comanche and settlers - and how violent, unforgiving, savage, and practical the lifestyles were for native Americans and settlers alike. Almost everyone in this book has some sort of practical psychosis that powers them through multiple horrific moments.

The true story of the last major Comanche Chief, Quanah Parker, is a beautiful and complicated tale that makes Game Of Thrones look like a straightforward children’s book. This nuanced story knits together many big parts of American history over several decades with lots of new detail and big historical context. Everyone is both a hero and a villain, often at the same time. If you don’t like history then skip. But, if you love history, get your IV drip going because you are going to want to put this straight into your veins. Also there is a person in here named “Coyote Vagina”.
